Fulham Brass Band are delighted to announce that our Christmas concerts are live on the website so you all know where to go this December for some festive joy! This year there are 9 opportunities to see us with a mixture of services, fayres and (perhaps the most popular) pubs!

There are 2 very important concerts for us which we would love to have as many people as possible attend: On Sunday December 9^th at 7:30pm you are invited to our rehearsal venue St John’s Church in Fulham Broadway for a FREE evening of Christmas carols and brass band pieces for our Fulham Brass Band Christmas Concert.

Also on Friday December 14^th at 7:00 pm Clarendon Hall in Twickenham we are collaborating once again with Regent Brass and Richmond Youth Music Trust for a fantastic evening of talent and Festive Brass! After a disappointing but fun day out at Whychavon Festival of Brass (we came 5th out of 7!) the band are next appearing at The Lights Theatre, Andover with a joint concert with Test Valley Brass on Saturday 6th October at 7:30pm.. do come along to support the band!

Fulham Brass Band received a request from BBC Radio 1 at short notice to supply a brass quintet for a somewhat undercover mission at the station. We were unaware at the time of the nature of the gig, except that we were to play live for about 1-2 minutes on air on Thursday September 6th…

… YES! On Wednesday 29th August, a few members from Fulham were part of something very special on the South Bank. We had been asked to perform some romantic numbers to accompany a gentleman proposing to his girlfriend in full view of the passing public. After a meal in the Festival Hall the couple walked towards the river where a few members from Fulham Band appeared from the crowd playing an arrangement of ‘Love lifts us up where we belong’, this led to the romantic gent getting down on one knee. She of course said ‘YES’ and much to the glee of the passers-by we followed the loved up couple to their car playing an arrangement of ‘I believe I can fly’. Fulham are available for weddings, bah mitzvahs, funerals and now proposals.

So, the Olympics are finally here and the atmosphere has been building since the spectacular opening ceremony on Friday 27^th July. The band had been hired by the very appropriately named “Fulham Brass” to entertain the crowds outside his shop on Fulham Road as the Men’s Cycle Road race went past in the afternoon of Saturday 28^th July. There was a noticeable buzz in the air as the band set up (probably not down to us) and we were entertained by the Bradley Wiggins impersonators on the balcony on the house opposite. Expectation grew as the cavalcade built, followed by the riders, albeit all too rapidly to get a really good view.

Fulham Brass band are delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Richardson as their new Musical Director after a lengthy audition process.

Originally from Scotland, Rob is no stranger to the brass band scene. Rob is an accomplished baritone player, previously holding the principal baritone position with Fodens, Black Dyke, Fairey, YBS and Grimethorpe Colliery Band, in addition to principal euphonium at his first band, Kirkintilloch, principal baritone and euphonium with NYBBS and principal baritone for each of his seven courses with NYBB. In 2009 Rob moved to London and has played with Zone One Brass since living in the capital city.

Rob joins the band as they prepare for a summer programme of concerts and the Wychavon Festival of Brass in September.

The Fulham Band were booked to play at the Celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this afternoon. After being ushered over to the adjacent All Saint’s Church, we were asked whether we could stay to play for a mystery guest.

After a short wait, it became clear that we were likely to be playing for someone who was more important than your run-of-the-mill celeb, especially when we were presented with copies of the national anthem

Soon after, there was a stirring in the crowd and the object of the excitement became clear; the mystery guest was none other than H.R.H. Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and his daughthers, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. After a tour of the grounds, the Royal party returned to the Church, where the band played the Trumpet Tune from Te Deum, and then the National Anthem. The Prince talked to members of the band, particularly Sarah Linstead and the Princesses posed for pictures with members of the band. Soon after, the Royal Party left to join the flotilla up the Thames to Tower Bridge.

After an extremely successful run at The Questors Theatre in Ealing of the popular film-come-play Brassed Off, Fulham Brass Band are getting ready for the Summer Season in 2012! The band are currently auditioning for a new MD and news will be posted about the successful candidate in June!

Members from Fulham Brass Band made their way to the BBC Studios this evening in White City to play The Floral Dance with Sir Terry Wogan singing as part of The One Show LIVE on BBC 1. We enjoyed hanging out in The Green Room and meeting Matt Baker (particularly for our Sop player Mat Baker) and Alex Jones!

Although this was a trip down memory lane for Sir Terry, its all very current for the band as we are currently rehearsing to perform the piece amongst many others as part of a production in The Questors Theatre, Ealing of the popular film adaptation Brassed Off Continue reading “Fulham Brass Band on THE ONE SHOW”
