So, the Olympics are finally here and the atmosphere has been building since the spectacular opening ceremony on Friday 27^th July. The band had been hired by the very appropriately named “Fulham Brass” to entertain the crowds outside his shop on Fulham Road as the Men’s Cycle Road race went past in the afternoon of Saturday 28^th July. There was a noticeable buzz in the air as the band set up (probably not down to us) and we were entertained by the Bradley Wiggins impersonators on the balcony on the house opposite. Expectation grew as the cavalcade built, followed by the riders, albeit all too rapidly to get a really good view.

Fulham Brass band are delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Richardson as their new Musical Director after a lengthy audition process.

Originally from Scotland, Rob is no stranger to the brass band scene. Rob is an accomplished baritone player, previously holding the principal baritone position with Fodens, Black Dyke, Fairey, YBS and Grimethorpe Colliery Band, in addition to principal euphonium at his first band, Kirkintilloch, principal baritone and euphonium with NYBBS and principal baritone for each of his seven courses with NYBB. In 2009 Rob moved to London and has played with Zone One Brass since living in the capital city.

Rob joins the band as they prepare for a summer programme of concerts and the Wychavon Festival of Brass in September.

The Fulham Band were booked to play at the Celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this afternoon. After being ushered over to the adjacent All Saint’s Church, we were asked whether we could stay to play for a mystery guest.

After a short wait, it became clear that we were likely to be playing for someone who was more important than your run-of-the-mill celeb, especially when we were presented with copies of the national anthem

Soon after, there was a stirring in the crowd and the object of the excitement became clear; the mystery guest was none other than H.R.H. Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and his daughthers, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. After a tour of the grounds, the Royal party returned to the Church, where the band played the Trumpet Tune from Te Deum, and then the National Anthem. The Prince talked to members of the band, particularly Sarah Linstead and the Princesses posed for pictures with members of the band. Soon after, the Royal Party left to join the flotilla up the Thames to Tower Bridge.

After an extremely successful run at The Questors Theatre in Ealing of the popular film-come-play Brassed Off, Fulham Brass Band are getting ready for the Summer Season in 2012!
