Another trophy!

band 3An early start left Fulham Brass Band a little hungry and bleary eyed as we set off to compete at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain 2014 held at Cheltenham Racecourse.  Weeks of hard work from the band and our conductor John Ward had prepared us well but nothing could hold back the nerves felt by many on the day.  The very beautiful but technical “Traversada” composed by Oliver Waespi challenged all the bands but we managed to put on a pretty good show and were able to come away with another trophy as 3rd prize winners of the Second section.  Let’s hope our winning streak continues as we enter our most challenging of years competing in the 1st section from January!

National Championships of Great Britain!

Tomorrow Fulham Brass Band are delighted to be partaking in the Second Section of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. We will be travelling up this evening after our final rehearsal and are looking forward to putting our hard work into practice! Come and support us tomorrow morning in Cheltenham!

Sad news: The passing of Tony Lewington

We are sorry to announce the passing of former Fulham Brass Band member, Tony Lewington, who died on Thursday 17th July 2014. Tony played BBb bass with us for 10 years and fought a tough battle with cancer after being diagnosed 6 years ago. Tony carried on playing with the band despite his illness for quite a while.

His partner Layne Wyatt would like to invite all past and present band members and friends to the funeral. Tony will be played out to Aces High, his favourite band piece. The funeral will take place at Mortlake Crematorium at Noon on Thursday 31 July.

In the Summertime when the weather is fine….

Fulhfulhamam Brass Band have just started our exciting summer programme of gigs, starting with Mount Street Gardens last Sunday 15th June. Despite the lack of sun and a few spots of rain, the band played our opening Summer gig to an audience of enthusiastic fete-goers in the heart of Mayfair. There was even Punch and Judy to enjoy between sets!

Our next outing is this Sunday at the Hurlingham Club Summer Party and we are delighted to keep up the good relationship we have with our neighbours close to the river, however please note that this is for Members Only. If you are a fan of the band then do come along to Parsons Green Fair on Saturday 5th July to support the local Fulham community! And if you still want MORE from the band then catch us at our Summer Concert at Victoria Embankment Gardens at 1:00pm on Saturday 9th August.

The band are working hard with newly appointed MD John Ward to work towards our rewarding trip to Cheltenham in September for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain and have a lot of further exciting projects waiting in the wings. So do keep checking back and supporting our Summer Programme!
